Lists of Events Are Slow or Not Working (Events Calendar Pro 7.3+)

Last updated on January 6, 2017

UPDATE Version 7.4.1 and higher of The Events Calendar Pro seems to resolve this issue. There may be lingering affects of the bug which you can investigate using the information below.

If you are using Registrations for the Events Calendar along with The Events Calendar Pro 7.3 or higher, there are a few different issues which may occur when it comes to lists of events in both the front end and back end of your site.

Your first step should be to update to the latest version of Registrations for the Events Calendar. There are several workarounds along with a tool to help all of the following issues.

Before updating or trying to use any of the following instructions, we strongly suggest making a backup of your site in the event something goes wrong.

Page Freezes or Shows Blank White

If the page listing events is “white” or does not load at all, there could be an PHP memory limit error. This is caused by code in The Events Calendar 7.3 adding a new row of data to the post meta table every time another post meta item is modified.

To fix this, upgrade to version 2.28.2 or higher of Registrations for the Events Calendar Pro. On the “Support” tab you will see a tool that will allow you to delete the arbitrary post meta rows that indicate that a setting has been modified:

After deleting these fields, the PHP memory required to load the page should drop enough for events to start loading. You can also try raising the PHP memory limit by contacting your host.

Page Loads Slowly or Shows and Error After a Long Wait

There are several issues that can lead to this occurring. When creating or modifying recurring events, the event start time can become corrupted. This will cause the code that tries to make a list of events in order by event start date to load slowly or not at all.

To identify whether or not this is the problem, try to modify the start date of a recurring event or the range of dates the recurrence falls between. If after saving your changes, the start date or schedule of recurrences stays the same, you may need to delete the series/recurring event and start over as this indicates that the data is corrupted that handles this event.

Heads up that changing the recurrence schedule can also cause your registrations to no longer associate with the correct events. We recommend backing up your registrations through and export or generated report before doing this.
